GYNECOMASTIA

Is the development of a male mammary gland. Causes vary and can occur due to hormonal disorders, due to certain drugs like steroids or in patients after massive weight loss. This generates a female aspect which is generally rejected by men in general. Treatment consist in identify the cause and control it. According to the type of gynecomastia the surgical treatment may consist in liposuction, gland resection alone or a combination of both. This surgery is done under local anesthesia plus iv. sedation or general anesthesia in more severe cases. Scars are generally hidden under areola unless skin resection is necessary in those cases where skin has to be resected.
